This excerpt is from an interview with Disney Legend Bill Justice, who worked for The Walt Disney Company from 1937 to 1979, first as an animator, and then as an Imagineer.

On Saturday July 14, Academy Award®-winning filmmaker John Canemaker presented a behind-the-scenes look at how Walt Disney as inpsired by Heinrich Kley and other European artists, and how their art was translated into many Disney versions of famous stories and tales. .

There's only one month left to enjoy Heinrich Kley: From Fantasy to Fantasia, featuring drawings by Heinrich Kley (Germany, 1863-1945)—Walt Disney’s most admired European illustrator—paired with art from Disney’s famed animated film Fantasia (1940).

The popularity of Mickey Mouse is apparent in seeing the amount of merchandising produced during the 1930s. Gallery 2b exhibits many examples of products featuring the face of Mickey Mouse, including watches, dolls, and even an automobile hood ornament. A number of books and comics were published with stories about the mischievous mouse, such as a popular series of books for younger readers known as Big Little Books.

All throughout this summer, we bring to you "Disneyland - The Quintessential Classics", which covers the must see attractions that made Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom, internationally known as "The Happiest Place on Earth". The tour continues this week with The Jungle Cruise and Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room!

August at The Walt Disney Family Museum features Walt Disney’s classic Fantasia (1940), a musical masterpiece that features the talent of renowned conductor Leopold Stokowski, and led to the development of stereophonic surround sound. As Fantasia is a feature film made up of eight animated segments, we've taken the film apart to focus on each segment individually. Today, we'd like to present to you the beauty that is "Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria", which was a segment directly influenced by the darker artwork of Heinrich Kley.

With some 7,466 pipes, the Alexander Memorial Organ at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral is one of the largest organs in the Western United States, and its beauty one of the finest American classic organs. In celebration of this, we are thrilled to have Benjamin Bachmann--the Canon Director of Music at Grace Cathedral--tell us a little more about one of the most famous musical pieces on the organ: "Toccata and Fugue in D minor"!

As we turn our attention to dinosaurs, we've asked our neighbors across the park--San Francisco's leading science experts--to chat with us about these fascinating prehistoric creatures. In August, the Look Closer series focused on the unique notebook in Gallery 5, found amidst images, artwork, and footage from the 1940 classic Fantasia. The notebook was created by studio employee Herman Schultheis, who worked for the studio’s Process Lab Department from 1938 to 1940.

Each month, we ask a museum staff member to answer five questions about their position at The Walt Disney Family Museum, their fondest Disney memories, and other personal tidbits. As we're coming back from summer, we'd like to shake things up a bit and, instead, highlight the entire staff with a little video we made using pixilation! Check it out after the jump!
