The TCM Classic Film Festival is drawing near, and I for one am particularly excited about a program that The Walt Disney Family Museum is presenting there. As some of you know, the TCM Festival will be held in Hollywood from April 28-May 1. Our digital archivist, Lynn Zook, is on the scene at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood this week and filed this report about Wednesday's events. Membership in The Walt Disney Family Museum includes many benefits, including admission, complimentary film tickets, a quarterly newsletter, and a membership card that grants a 10% discount in the museum store—as well as discounts on selected educational and public programs. On the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. Army moved into the Disney Studio lot in Burbank, California. Not only was the Studio a convenient storage facility during World War II, but Walt Disney himself was recruited by the government to create training and propaganda films, which made up more than 90% of the company’s production.

At The Walt Disney Family Museum, we take enormous pride in our location in the heart of The Presidio of San Francisco. For 218 years, the Presidio served as an army post for three nations. World and local events, from military campaigns to the rise of aviation, from World’s Fairs to earthquakes, left their mark. Since 1994, the Presidio has been a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

On Saturday, May 21, Disney historian Paul F. Anderson presented “World War II: Fighting the War with Ink and Paint.” The lecture, which opened with a rousing blast of “Reveille,” included slides and rare film clips about a little-known but fascinating chapter in the Disney Studio history between 1941 and 1945.
