Join us for a two-week intensive class exploring character animation and get an exclusive look into today’s animation field with guest animators from The Animation Collaborative. In-process feedback, technical presentations, and personal career advice provide a comprehensive, hands-on look at the artistic elements and hard work that bring animation to life.
Walt Disney’s career began in the world of cartooning. He envisioned himself as a cartoon artist, and in fact, drew many of the comics in his high school magazine, The Voice. With this passion, he created one of the most recognizable cartoon characters of all time.
In this two-week class, be prepared to rethink and reimagine ideas and designs as you learn what it takes to be an animator. Drawing, painting, and sculpting techniques will be explored alongside The 12 Principles of Animation, with an emphasis on Timing, Spacing, and Staging. Students will create multiple animation tests and a final project done in paper cut out animation.
The game is afoot! The super sleuth of rodents, Basil of Baker Street, has been hired to solve the case of the abducted toymaker. Basil’s powers of deduction will be pitted against his nemesis Professor Rattigan, animated by Glen Keane. This film is being shown in conjunction with our special exhibition Make Believe: The World of Glen Keane.

In this program, Dale Baer shares his memories of the five years during which he worked with six of the Nine Old Men. Having learned some significant lessons from these masters, Baer went on to have a career in animation that included work as a lead animator.

In this workshop, students will learn the history of Audio-Animatronics® technology during the early 1960s. This hands-on activity will challenge students to collaboratively work in teams to navigate a Sphero SPRK robot through trial and error, using math-based calculations and computer block programming.
In this fun and hands-on session, learn how to make your drawings truly come to life and put your creativity in the spotlight. An instructor will teach you step-by-step instructions on how to draw an original cartoon character. This workshop is for artists of all ages.
