From 1925 to 1927, Walt Disney produced a series of cartoons called the Alice Comedies. In these cartoons, a young girl named Alice—played by Virginia Davis—has adventures in an animated world. The decision to blend a live action character with a cartoon environment would come to revolutionize not only Walt’s career, but the field of animation as well. In this workshop, learn more about the Alice Comedies (featured in gallery 2), and explore how the use of both live action elements and cartoon drawings can create a piece that shows just how remarkably the real world can interact with the animated world.
