Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Self (2024)—a Pixar SparkShorts film about a wooden doll whose wish upon a star leads her down a path of self-discovery—with the film’s Director Searit Huluf and Producer Eric Rosales.

About the Speakers

Searit Huluf

Searit Huluf was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She studied at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television, concentrating on screenwriting and animation. After graduating, Huluf moved to the Bay Area and began working in Production Management at Pixar Animation Studios.

Since her time at Pixar, Searit has worked as a Production Coordinator on Incredibles 2 (2018) and Turning Red (2021), as well as some of Pixar’s SparkShorts films. She has also directed numerous short narrative and documentary films, such as GAMERS (2019), Exploring Blackness (2020), 19th Amendment Doc (2020), and buna (2023). She most recently directed Pixar’s SparkShort Self (2024), now streaming on Disney+.

During her spare time, Huluf brews a variety of coffee drinks using multiple espresso machines. She currently resides in Oakland, California.

Eric Rosales

Eric Rosales joined Pixar Animation Studios in February 2004 as a rendering coordinator on The Incredibles (2004). Since then, Rosales has worked as a manager in various departments—including sets, lighting, art, and effects—on feature films including Coco (2017), Toy Story 4 (2019), and Lightyear (2021). Most recently, Rosales served as Producer on the Pixar SparkShort Self (2024), now streaming on Disney+. 

Prior to Pixar, Rosales worked as an American Red Cross representative and was an assistant at FCB Advertising. He then went on to work in freelance live-action film production, and also worked as an archivist at Tech TV and an editor at Multivision Media Tracker. 

Rosales grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended University of California, Santa Cruz. He currently resides in Pleasant Hill, California.
