Hear us out, there’s a big commotion coming to our theater! Join award-winning Skywalker Sound Foley Artist Shelley Roden as she shares her experience creating everyday sound effects—known as “foley”—for more than 200 films, television shows, and games; and leads an interactive audience demonstration on how to add sound to an animated scene.

About the Speaker

Shelley Roden

Shelley Roden is an award-winning foley artist working at Skywalker Sound in Northern California. She has created and performed foley sound effects for more than 200 live-action films, animated films, television series, and games. Recent projects include Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 (2026), Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers (2026), 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025), and the episodic series Wonder Man for Marvel and Andor for Lucasfilm.

Roden shares her love for foley art by engaging with students and the public through interactive workshops. Her artist visits include Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Drexel University, Ithaca College, Sonic College in Denmark, as well as annual visits with Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Kinetic Imaging where she is an affiliate faculty member, and the Strong Museum of Play in her hometown of Rochester, New York. She is currently writing a book featuring personal interviews with her foley artist colleagues.
