This year, in honor of Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary, we will be making multiple stops around the Resort and delving into its history. Our next stop is Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park.

One of Walt Disney’s earliest inspirations was the legendary work of Winsor McCay. One of McCay’s most notable pieces, Gertie the Dinosaur (1914), features an animated brontosaurus filled with personality and drawn in an unprecedented style for its time of release. Since then, animated dinosaurs have graced theaters and television screens for generations. Honoring this legacy, a California Crazy architecture-inspired Gertie towers over Echo Lake at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Come explore the history of dinosaurs within animation while trying your hand at bringing your own brontosaurus to life, focusing on the principles of proportion, appeal, and solid drawing.
