Learn From the Masters

Stop Motion Puppet Performance with Ruben Esqueda

Ruben Esqueda, independent filmmaker and animation mentor since 1998, will lead two hands-on three-hour master classes for animators at all levels of experience. Participants will become familiar with necessary short acting studies relative to the physical performance of characters in their animated scene.

Working together in small groups, participants will plan and operate on individual stop-motion sets with the focus of animating a stop motion puppet. These sessions will focus on character acting and performance of stop motion puppets by drawing upon participants’ own physical performance. This class will involve the use of music and full body motion to explore essential animation concepts; participants should dress in comfortable clothing that allows for full range of movement.
